Elvis Presley, Elvis (1956)
One of the problems with inheriting bulk-loads of records is that you find gems like this – and yet there’s no cover! My collector-tendencies bristle. I have to have the record, I am happy to hear this (and remarkably it plays well too, isn’t scratched) but there’s no sleeve. So it’s not (quite) the real deal. I don’t mind streaming music – that’s part of the puzzle now. But when it comes to ‘owning’ music it has to be the full thing – the bells and whistles. It’s a small thing, petty even. But not in the context of a record collection. Most of the LPs I get that have no cover, or are too scratched to play properly go in the bin – or to anyone that wants them. But this one I’ll hang on to. Until I find a replacement. I love the early Elvis Presley stuff. And this, his second album, has plenty of gems of course. Just no cover…grrr!
