Son Seals, Live And Burning (1978)
A blunt-fingered bluesman, that’s how I figure him – but I like it! I’m not sure how he’s rated, but I always rated him highly. I remember hearing a Son Seals compilation when I worked in music-retail and it was good in-store blues; now I recognise that’s not a way to sell the blues…but then again it is! It was exactly what we were looking for when trying to sell blues to people. I found this album recently and it has a great energy to it – being one of those killer live records – burning! Again, I’m not sure how he’s rated, or how it’s rated, but it’s like the best kind of bar-room blues to me, raw, rough, exciting. It’s not my favourite thing in the world. But play it at the right time and it sure feels alright.
