Ennio Morricone, The Thing [OST] (1982)
I’ve always been into John Carpenter films – and a big part of it is the music, whether it’s by Carpenter or not. I love his scores. I saw The Thing when I was about 12 or 13 – one summer, a trip to Gisbourne; we’d rent loads of movies, stay up for much of the night and just rip through 80s classics – Kung-Fu, Horror, Concert Films, Stand-Up Comedy, Pro-Wrestling. It was trashy and glorious. And The Thing was part of one of those runs – and it was a brilliant film with this gorgeous, perfect soundtrack too. I have listened to the Ennio Morricone score over the years, online, I’ve never owned a copy of it. But I do own loads of Morricone – because I’ll listen to almost anything he’s done. Just recently a Facebook friend offered to send me this – he had no further use for it, it’s in perfect condition. He couldn’t keep the record, he was boxing everything up and wasn’t taking his LPs with him – he knew from my many posts across the years that I love movie scores and soundtracks. So this just arrived, on the door-step in a bundle with a few other cool LPs (more soundtracks!) A real treat to finally have this to hold on to.
