Soundgarden, Badmotorfinger (1991)
My introduction to this album – and to Soundgarden – was Outshined, Track 1 on The Trip. What a great compilation that was. Introduced me to a lot of great artists/songs, confirmed a lot of other favourites. So it was to Badmotorfinger next – to check out more Soundgarden. And though I like other albums this is the one I always enjoyed the most. Until picking this LP up recently I never owned any of the band’s albums though. Used to borrow them, mates had them, I owned a couple of compilations, the recently released live stuff too– and I would regularly go back to The Trip for Outshined and to YouTube for whatever (else) I needed. But Badmotorfinger: what an album. Side one has not only Outshined but Rusty Cage and Jesus Christ Pose too. That’s three of the band’s best songs. And there are other songs on this album that are just as good – that churn and grind of guitars and drums. There’s not a dud here. A complete album. Four kick-ass players nailing down some great, great music. One of my favourite albums of the 1990s. One of my favourite albums.
