Eurythmics, Revenge (1986)
What a great run on side one, first three songs: Missionary Man, Thorn In My Side, When Tomorrow Comes – this is an album I know well from my childhood. Another of the albums that the whole family loved; that mum used to play very loud (and very often), accompanying vacuuming and dusting chores with this as the soundtrack – I was about 10 years old and though I did know Eurythmics already (due to Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This – which I was pretty freaked out by, in a way) this was the album that sealed the deal for me. I still have the family copy from 1986. Well-loved, still plays well (even if not as often). I rate Eurythmics still as one of the great pop acts of the 1980s and this was one of my favourite albums back then. We were in Auckland around the time the band played but we did not go to the gig. I remember mum saying the next day, reading it in the paper or whatever, that Annie Lennox had stripped at the gig. I was about 10 years old or whatever. I found that to be really gross. I remember feeling very pleased that we did not attend that gig!
