Midnight Oil, 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 (1982)
This is really where/when I got on board with Midnight Oil – though chiefly because of Power and the Passion – a big radio song here, a big single, and every time I heard it as a youngster there was the excitement of that drum-break. Wow! That was just so cool. My folks loved the songs and my brother did and then my brother bought this cassette tape. It was a revelation. I was hooked. And it was crucial to have the LP one day – which I’ve now had for many years – because having the CD was good and well but this is an album I still think of very much so as a Side 1/Side 2 deal. And side two is the better side. There’s some great songs on side one, sure. But the second side kicks off with US Forces and then straight into Passion and it’s all on from there. Some of my favourite songs from the band – all in a row. A faultless side of music, a great record from a great band.
