Faith No More, Angel Dust (1992)
Well, I’ve gushed on and on about this album for some time really. Wasn’t ever quite sure I’d get the record – then it was reissued recently and so there was a chance. But I missed my window, the store sold through its copies – and I figured I’d order it one day, etc. Then, quite out of the blue, I’m listening back to Faithless’ Reverence LP and not really digging it all that much and a guy leaves a comment on that entry to The Vinyl Countdown telling me he’ll swap me, he’ll give me his copy of Faith No More’s Angel Dust in exchange for my copy of Faithless’ Reverence. Well, I thought it was probably some sort of cheap joke actually. Faithless/Faith No More – too cute: different ways of saying the same thing, right? Kinda. So I write back and I go, “sure”. And he messages to say he’ll come along to a pub where I’m doing this set of electronic music and then it’s a shitty night and there’s no surprise that he’s not there. But I sorta wonder if this was all some sort of silly gag. But then he writes back and we plan the exchange and so I meet him this week – coupla days ago. Good bloke. English geezer. We chat a bit about that big beat scene and dance and trance and club stuff from the mid/late-90s. I used to be into a bit of that. He still is. He gave Angel Dust a punt having heard heaps of rave reviews and people (probably me?) talking it up. But no, it wasn’t for him. So he gave me his near-new copy of Angel Dust for my old copy (but, I reckon, well looked after) of the Faithless LP. We both walked away happy. And nice to make that connection too – in these post a comment days. I returned home, the wee sprog out of the house for a portion of the day and I blasted all four sides of the double LP. And it was wonderful. Took me back to first hearing it and all of that. God I love this album. A beaut day, the sun shining. This record – receiving it, and the way I did – made it seem even better. Cheers Gaz!
