Welcome to episode 59 of Sweetman Podcast with support from our sponsors – T Leaf T, L’affare and Yeastie Boys. This one is a chat with my friend Nik Jarvie-Waldrom. She’s behind a series of interviews as part of the RNZ podcast series, Fathom.
We’ve known each other for about a decade, worked the same day-job while dreaming and scheming of getting things out there in the arts; we’re good buds and we’ve talked – often – about music and podcasts, writing and art. So, with her fantastic podcast-series in the bank it was time to get her on tape. To get to her current storytelling interest we talked through her upbringing, her early fascination with music and acting.
From there she’s worked as a Saturday morning DJ on Radio Active, played in bands, appeared as a singer on tracks by outside producers, made her own music. There’s a background in theatre and dance and writing. And now she pulls all of those skills together to create the brilliant Fathom – currently a series of three standalone podcast interviews (fingers crossed there’ll be more). I’ve talked to a few family members and close friends as part of the
podcast, it’s always interesting seeing where it will go, how it will go. Nik and I have had a few versions of this kind of chat, but never one so intense and in-depth. I really enjoyed it – and hope you do too. You’ll also hear us talking about the hugely popular S-Town and many other podcasts. You might get a tip or two from Nik in regards to your next favourite podcast…You’ll also hear some of her music underneath at various points during the conversation.
And please do check out Fathom if you haven’t already.
You’ve found this via the link on Facebook or Twitter and/or from the Off The Tracks website – it’s hosted at Soundcloud and to receive the episodes before you even get to these show notes you can subscribe on iTunes. You can also rate and review the podcast there.
Day-time visitors to the den get to have tea now, thanks to T Leaf T or coffee thanks to L’affare or, later in the day, they can have a beer from the wonderful Yeastie Boys. My thanks as always to these great sponsors. If you want to advertise on the podcast or sponsor an episode, or more, please do get in touch.
