The world of gig-going/music-reviewing is full of “that was probably the best gig I’ve ever seen…”-type stories. And holy shit, seeing Robert Plant most certainly had to come close. Seeing him the same week I saw Paul Simon and then Bonnie Raitt perhaps made it even better.
Shortly after the gig (the following year) he released one of his very best albums.
Class act. All the way.
The only disappointing thing about this gig was hearing a couple of guys behind me yelling out, more than once, to, “play some Zeppelin, enough of that nigger shit” and stuff like that. Pretty ghastly. With their Woodstock pre-mix…
But there was a whole lotta love in the way Plant served up all new takes on some of his Zep catalogue and played new songs too; it really didn’t matter what he and the band played, it was, instead, all in the way they played it.
Stubs is an occasional feature here at Off The Tracks – looking back through the ticket-stub box and remembering how the show went down.
